Sooo, when my HP Mediasmart server was running on full (empty, if you’re counting free space) I jumped on the ‘egg and got to looking at hard drives. I’ve been purposefully putting this off due to hard drives getting bigger/cheaper/GB – then I got to thinking about RAM. The HP-Flavored Windows Home Server install is pretty sluggish with the pre-installed 512MB of RAM. The newer servers, the ones with Intel processors, use 1GB of RAM while using the same system software.
This lead to the obvious conclusion: I get to take apart another computer device in the house.
After picking a quite affordable 1.5TB drive for $119.99 to add to the mix, I got to looking at some NAS blogs and came up with this stick:

This stick, 2GB of RAM with 4-4-4 timings works quite well with the platform. And after some wrangling while following this excellent tutorial, I have a much larger capacitied, and snappier-responding media server box.

And the sticker/decal it comes with is fantastic! If you’ve been waiting on undertaking the task, I’d recommend giving Newegg the twenty-something bucks and make it happen. It makes the whole experience, especially moving large files, a lot smoother.

I took a (somewhat scandalously named) Third World History Class and a class dealing with race and politics in the United States. Two texts from these classes are books I would of read on my own, and are recomended as such:
The Brief Wonderous Life of Oscar Wao
Has already been covered in an earlier post. One thing I failed to mention, though, is the presence of what I consider the “core story” of the constantly-shifting narrative, which was originally published in the New Yorker in 2000.
Chain Reaction
This text, which seems to be littered all around college bookstores for $5, describes the birth of the modern Republican brand, including: family values as subtle racism, the concept of “realignment,” and how these themes shaped politics from Reagan to W. Regardless to your personal politics, it’s an interesting story of a political party in flux, and gives quality scholarly research and annotations that might springboard further research.

I’m kind of into a rut, music-wise. What’s good?

You know, a time machine that can only go back to post 1800 and doesn’t have wi-fi.
2001 – Take Amy Winehouse to an Orbital show. Cause I don’t think taking Lily Allen to an Underworld show in 2003 would have the same ending.
1854 – Bitch slap Lord Cardigan and take his sweet sweater – thus making cardigans stankiewiczes. Also, I’d re-write those orders so even Lucan didn’t send a bunch of aristrocrats to die pointlessly. I’d still advise him to get into cattle, though.
1890s – Think of a better name than “concentration camp.”
1994 – Steal Kurt’s shotgun, replacing it with a 2 ft wawa hoagie (thinking turkey).
early 2009 – put that cable splitter I keep on moving, and subsequently lost, somewhere obvious.
May 1, 2009 – No point in tempting fate, just leave my iPod Touch at home that day.
1944 – Put sugar in Rommel’s gas tank, get knighted.
2007 – Buy 2 sets of Shure e2cs for $40 each, instead of 1.
1996 – Not throw out that IBM model M keyboard.
2007 – Buy 2 Tivoli Model 1′s for $50 each, instead of 1.
2007 – Slap myself for thinking of buying a Averatec laptop.
2006 – Duct tape my 4th generation iPod to my past self when on Greyhound.
2005 – Pick up that discontinued minidisc player. It was only $30 for chrissakes.
1989 – Make my parents take me to pre-revival Times Square.
1994 – Buy an extra copy of Chrono Trigger and Earthbound, keeping them in a minty-fresh box for future sale.
